Swiss-Born, he’s spent the last four decades in New York running the legendary Four Seasons Restaurant, described by the New York Times as “probably the most important New York restaurant of the 20th century.”
Alex von Bidder’s life’s purpose is to share the joys of transformation, patiently - and with humor. Each of his roles is a different expression of his desire to connect with people, support them, and continue learning, teaching, and contributing. Throughout his career, von Bidder has taken on the role of mentor and coach to many, including his clients, students, and workshop participants.
Beginning in 1976, von Bidder took the reins as Managing Partner of The Four Seasons Restaurant, a pinnacle of New York's dining scene. His leadership and culinary expertise helped shape the restaurant into a premier dining destination, a position it held until 2020. In 2010, Alex transitioned into the role of Board Chairperson at Rancho La Puerta, a renowned destination spa located in Tecate, Mexico. His stewardship at this wellness retreat has continued into the present, establishing him as a key figure in the industry.
Alex has contributed as a Guest Lecturer at various institutions including Columbia University's "Creativity and Personal Mastery" course, Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration for "Restaurant Management", and New York University's course on "Civility and Modern Manners". Aside from his business endeavors and lectures, Alex has also made his mark as a published author. His written works include a column for Best Life magazine, aptly titled "Executive Zen." He has also penned "The Four Seasons: A History of America's Premier Restaurant," a look into the illustrious past of the establishment. Further broadening his writing portfolio, he co-authored a children's manners book, "Wiggens learns his manners," with Leslie McGuirk.
He has recently moved from New York to Aiken, SC with his wife, Sandra. Their grown daughter, Stephanie, is a professional horse trainer and show judge in the same town.
